Here we are, more than a week in and still going strong.  Weight loss has definitely slowed but it hasn’t stopped; I imagine I’m about 10-15 pounds from the first plateau.  Here are the updates since last post:

  1. More exercise – it got a little dodgy there for a couple of days, but I’ve certainly fallen into the habit of being active, at least on the treadmill for a little bit each day.  Since we’ve gotten the treadmill, I’ve been walking/running every day without fail.  A couple of days ago I almost didn’t do anything, because I just wasn’t feeling like it, but worked through that and got moving anyway.  I’ve also secured the bluetooth headphones which has had an immediate positive impact on the health of my electronics.  Still watching 24, it’s a decent show.
  2. Healthier eating – the reality of the success of portion control hit last night when I had trouble finishing a pretty small salad from Winking Lizard.  By the end of the week, I’ll feel confident enough in my ability to resist, coupled with my inability to eat such large portions, that I’ll be able to add some more options to my diet.  All in due time.  Also, Shakeology came and I’ve been having that every morning–lots of easy ways to doctor it up, but just by itself it’s pretty good.  I’m not yet convinced that it’s worth the price, but I’ll give it some more time before making that determination.  My favorite recipe thus far is 4 oz milk, 4 oz fresh-brewed and iced coffee, 2 T all-natural peanut butter and a banana…throw that in the blender with some chocolate Shakeology and ice, and it’s like drinking dessert for breakfast.  Water intake is still high, coffee intake is still low–in fact, one day, I didn’t have coffee at all but didn’t get any headaches.  Also, haven’t had a drop of pop…I am missing that for sure.
  3. Better attitude about my self-image – not a lot to report here.  I’ve noticed a change after 9 pounds, but I’m looking forward to others noticing too.  That comes with time, and with more work.  Hopefully I’ll have made a decent enough dent by Christmas that maybe some family members will notice…and if not, that’s ok too, since that’s not really why I’m doing this.
  4. Stronger will to make better choices in life – I mentioned before I went to Winking Lizard yesterday; I resisted there and just had a caesar salad (which was delicious, by the way).  I’ve resisted some stuff in the last week, definitely have been a good boy with that.  On that note, though, my first goal is at 10 pounds, which will likely be met by the weekend, at which point I will be indulging in some not-so-healthy food; not sure if it’s going to be some pizza, or a big freakin’ burger, but it’s going to be good.

Moving right along…be well.
